An evaporative cooler, also called a swamp cooler, is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling is different from air conditioning systems which use vapor compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. First, one motor pumps water into pads of an absorbent substance similar to hay, called cellulose. Then another motor powers a fan that pushes air through the pad, which is always full with fresh water. This kind of of cooling system is perfect for drier environments.
